Intern Reflection
End of Semester/Internship Reflection
I had the opportunity to complete my internship at Medasource as a Finance Intern within the Payroll and Billing department, and it was an incredibly valuable experience. I remember feeling both excited and a little nervous at the beginning since this was my first experience working in a professional finance environment. However, I quickly adjusted because the team was welcoming and supportive, which made it easier for me to learn and grow in my role.
I was fortunate to work with a team that consistently provided guidance and support throughout the semester. I worked closely with the payroll team, which helped me better understand payroll processes, billing procedures, and compliance expectations. During check-ins and daily communication, I asked questions because clarity is essential for success in a role requiring accuracy and financial responsibility.
During my internship, I also attended the Eight Eleven Emerging Leaders Conference. This experience was both engaging and informative. I participated in career coaching sessions, received interview preparation tips, and gained a professional LinkedIn headshot. More importantly, I networked with professionals outside Medasource and learned more about career pathways in consulting and healthcare services.
My responsibilities at Medasource included a variety of finance and operational tasks. I reviewed and approved expense reports for consultants, recruiters, sales teams, and internal employees to ensure accurate and timely reimbursements. I also worked on payroll-related updates, including maintaining employee records, updating salary changes, and ensuring proper tax withholdings. In addition, I supported multiple projects, including Inspira TDR placements, Northwell commission updates, UPMC BMDI placements, Prisma MIRCI Go-Live, the closing of the Beacon Chart Abstraction placement, Vanderbilt Gateway Go-Live, and W-2/1099 stamping and mailing. These projects helped me understand how financial operations directly connect to client services and staffing outcomes. My day-to-day responsibilities also included updating records in systems such as Bullhorn, SAP Concur, ADP, and expense tracking spreadsheets. I ensured compliance with company policies by carefully reviewing receipts, matching expenses, and verifying details before approval.
One of the biggest lessons I learned during this internship was the importance of attention to detail and time management. Even small errors in payroll or expense reporting can create larger issues, so consistency and accuracy were essential in everything I did. I also learned how important it is to stay organized, especially when managing multiple projects at once.
Overall, my internship at Medasource was a meaningful learning experience that helped me grow both professionally and personally. I gained practical finance knowledge, improved my technical skills, and developed a stronger understanding of workplace expectations. I am grateful for the opportunity and the supportive environment that allowed me to build confidence and real-world experience in finance and healthcare consulting.
