What I learned

For the Longwood Community Hospital financial analysis project in Health Finance and Budgeting, I chose this assignment because it offered a strong opportunity to apply financial concepts in a realistic healthcare setting. It was also new to me, as it required analyzing a hospital’s financial performance using structured categories such as liquidity, profitability, activity, and capital structure ratios. We wanted to challenge ourselves to better understand how healthcare organizations maintain financial stability while still delivering patient care.

Through this project, I learned how to interpret financial ratios and what they reveal about a hospital’s overall performance. I gained a clearer understanding of how hospitals manage assets, control costs, and evaluate profitability over time. I also learned how small changes in areas like salaries, benefits, and operating expenses can impact long-term financial health. Overall, this assignment strengthened my analytical and critical thinking skills, which will be useful in future healthcare finance and management roles.
